Happy Bike Walk Week!

Bike Walk Week, the Twin Cities' annual celebration of biking and walking, is next week! Are you ready?

If you signed up for the Commuter Challenge back in April, this is a great time for you to make good on your pledge.  All it takes is going by foot or by bike for a trip you would usually drive during the week of June 9th.  It doesn't have to be a long trip, and it doesn't even have to be your commute to work, we just ask that you try leaving your car behind to get from point A to point B.

Take the online pledge to bike or walk one time between June 9 - 15 and you could win great prizes.  There are also some great events going on around town during the week.  Bike Walk to Work Day is Thursday, June 13th at Rice Park in downtown St. Paul.  Stop by between 6:30 and 9:00 a.m. to enjoy complimentary food, win prizes, meet new people and help support biking and walking in St. Paul!

Can't make it to downtown St. Paul that morning? There are free events all over town all week long that may fit your schedule.  If you need a tune up when you're out riding, there are Commuter Pit Stops all over St. Paul and Minneapolis next week. Take your bike by one of the stops and have an expert make sure everything is in working order. Many are offering free goodies just for stopping by!

Don't do it alone- Join the MHS Team!

Julia with her 2010 Bike Walk team on the Sabo Bridge in MinneapolisThe MN Historical Society has a team in the 2013 Twin Cities Bike Walk Week Teams competition! The competition will pit all participating and eligible teams - big and small - against one another in a competition designed to celebrate bicycling and walking as transportation!

Take a moment to sign up and join the MHS team on Greenlightride, where you can track your trips and mileage.  Once you're signed up, the goal is to log as many trips as possible for work or general transportation via bicycle or on foot from June 9-15, and have fun doing it! At the end of the competition, prizes will be awarded to the team logging the most trips during the week.
